Right to Repair
What is right to repair?
Right to repair refers to the issue of whether original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are required to provide access to diagnostic and repair information, manuals, parts, and tools so that independent service providers and individual owners can repair equipment on their own. Historically, manufacturers and their distributors employed an array of tactics to prevent non-authorized entities from repairing purchased equipment, such as barring access to replacement parts and product/repair information; limiting access to on-board device settings, diagnostics and data; or copyright lawsuits against websites that provide repair resources.
