Open RAN
What is open RAN?
Open RAN (radio access network) architectures allow for greater choice among network hardware and software suppliers through interoperability and standardization. A radio access network is comprised of all the equipment (e.g. radio base stations, small cells, repeaters) that connects end-user mobile devices to a core network. Historically, network operators have had to acquire whole systems from one vendor to ensure compatibility. Open RAN architectures promise to spur innovation and bring down the price point of networks.
