What is encryption-as-a-service?

Encryption-as-a-service describes API-driven solutions that help developers integrate data encryption into their products in considerably less time than it would take them to wrestle with open-source encryption libraries and implement encryption themselves. Encryption-as-a-service tries to address the problem of how do you both keep data safely encrypted and use it for business purposes (like tracking customers and extending targeted offers). Additional advantages include lower complexity, compliance support, and managed encryption keys.
