What is DAC?

Direct air capture (DAC) is a CCS (carbon capture and storage) technology, in which CO2 emissions are captured from the air and stored to reduce their impact on global warming. Direct air capture typically relies on expensive solvents that bind CO2 from the air, as well as high heat to release the CO2 in order to capture and sequester it underground. Newer approaches use alternative CO2-sorbent materials (e.g. limestone) instead of more expensive solvents, or use smaller, more modular DAC devices.
